NOTICE OF CANDIDATE FILING DEADLINE

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IDAHO

As required by Section 34-1405 of the Idaho Code, notice is hereby given that Declarations of Candidacy for County Offices, including Independents and Precinct Committeemen, for the Primary Election to be held on May 21, 2024, must be filed between 9 AM Monday, March 4 and 5 PM Friday, March 15. Declaration and Petitions of Candidacy may be picked up at the Franklin County Clerk’s Office for the following offices:

VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION

To register to vote in person or by mail, you will need a photo ID and proof of residence. Register to vote using your primary Idaho residence. Re-registration is required for an address or name change.


WHAT YOU NEED TO REGISTER


PHOTO ID

  • Idaho Driver's License
  • Idaho Identification Card
  • Passport or Federal ID
  • Tribal ID Card
  • Concealed Weapons License issued by a

County Sheriff in Idaho


PROOF OF RESIDENCE

  • Above Photo ID with correct address
  • Proof of Insurance
  • Mortgage, Lease, or rental agreement
  • Property tax assessment, bill
  • Utility Bill ( no cell bills)
  • Bank/Credit Card Statement
  • Paystub/Paycheck
  • Intake document to a care facility
  • Enrollment Letter from an Idaho High School or University
  • Letter from a social service agency


REPORTING YOUR CAMPAIGN FINANCE

Even before you file to run for office, you may need to report donations and expenditures for your campaign. All money raised or spent in relation to a campaign must be accounted for and tracked. This includes the use of personal money for this purpose. Once a candidate has raised or spent $500 for a political campaign, a candidate must file the appointment of a political treasurer and begin reporting the campaign finances, including the sources and expenses for the first $500.

ABSENTEE VOTING INFORMATION

Absentee voting allows you to vote if you are out of town on Election Day or prefer to vote from the comfort of your home. Any registered voter in Idaho may request an absentee ballot to be mailed to their address.


In person absentee voting is also available in the Franklin County clerk's office: APRIL 11,2024 - MAY 17, 2024

Military & Overseas Voting (UOCAVA)

If you are a United States Citizen (Civilian or Military) currently living abroad and eligible to vote in Idaho, you may request a ballot through the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

The last day to change your Party Affiliation for the May 21, 2024 Primary Election is Friday March 15th.


To Change Your Party Affiliation

You can submit a signed form to the county clerk's office to change your political party affiliation or become “unaffiliated”. The following deadlines apply to party changes leading up to a primary election.


IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY AFFILIATED WITH A PARTY

The signed form is due to the county clerk before the 10th Friday preceding the primary election.


IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY UNAFFILIATED AND WANT TO AFFILIATE

Unaffiliated voters can affiliate with a party on or before the primary Election Day. You can declare your party preference when checking in with a poll worker or submitting a party affiliation form to the county clerk.

NON-PARTISAN BALLOTS

Non-Partisan ballots only contain Judicial Candidates and Ballot Questions.

To declare your candidacy pick up a candidate packet from the County Clerk's Office, complete it and return the original back to the Clerk's Office during the filing period.

ELECTION NOTICES

When you use the "View My Ballot" tool, you must enter your address to see a customized ballot for the upcoming election. Please note, customized ballots are only created when an election is upcoming. If you know your voting precinct, you may also click on the "All Sample Ballots" link.


Note: The primary election is a closed primary, your party affiliation will determine what ballot you may choose.  Also, candidates names rotate by precinct and voters are only eligible to vote for the ballot measures in the districts in which they reside.
